Jaipur Women Safety Patrols Start
Jaipur has launched a dedicated Women Safety Patrol initiative aimed at improving public safety and restoring confidence among women in the city. Flagged off by the Rajasthan Police and Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the patrol units consist of specially trained female constables on two wheelers and in rapid response vans. These patrols will operate round the clock in sensitive zones such as markets, colleges, parks, public transport hubs, and nightlife areas. The initiative is part of a broader Safe City Project supported by the Nirbhaya Fund and includes mobile helplines, panic button integration in city buses, and real time tracking. Each patrol unit is equipped with body cameras, GPS, first aid kits, and QR code based complaint registration. The force has been trained in legal protocols, emergency response, and community counseling. Already, the initiative has started receiving positive feedback with increased visibility acting as a deterrent to street harassment and stalking. Workshops and awareness campaigns are also being run in collaboration with schools, NGOs, and RWAs to spread awareness on women's rights and safety tools. The Jaipur police have reported a 20% uptick in harassment related complaint registration since the pilot began an indicator of growing trust in the system. Plans are underway to expand the program to neighboring cities like Jodhpur and Kota. The Women Safety Patrol not only serves a practical law enforcement purpose but also symbolizes a broader cultural shift toward gender sensitive governance in Rajasthan.
