Government Launches IndiaStack 2.0
The Government of India has launched IndiaStack 2.0, a next generation digital infrastructure initiative aimed at expanding the reach of public digital services beyond identity and payments. Building on the success of Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker, IndiaStack 2.0 introduces new open protocols in health, education, commerce, and law. Key modules include the Unified Health Interface (UHI), Open Credit Enablement Network (OCEN), and Account Aggregator framework, allowing seamless flow of consent based personal data for better service delivery. The platform will also support multilingual accessibility and data protection mechanisms aligned with the upcoming Digital India Act. The stack’s modular design enables private innovators to build new apps and services atop secure government APIs. For example, a health tech startup can access patients' health records (with consent) through UHI, while a farmer can receive microloans via OCEN based on verified transaction history. IndiaStack 2.0 represents the government’s vision of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) as a foundational layer for inclusive development. It is expected to accelerate digital empowerment, especially in rural and semi urban areas. International interest is growing, with countries like Sri Lanka, Brazil, and Indonesia seeking to replicate this model. The launch signals India’s ambition to lead in ethical, open source based digital innovation for governance and public services.
